Ludhiana Salsa has not only infused rhythm into her life, but has also turned out to be a perfect stress buster for her. Dr Suman Puri, obstetrics and gynaeocologist at the Dayanand Medical College and Hospital (DMCH), feels she has got wings as she experiences 'weightlessness' performing this Latin-American dance.

“There is something about salsa and it has become my favourite dance form.”

“I used to encourage my daughters to learn dance and had admitted them in a dance academy. But in the process, I could not help being influenced myself and I also started training with them,” beams Dr Suman, who now spends about an hour every day doing dance aerobics and power yoga.

“While I was learning salsa, I also got to participate along with my elder daughter Tanvi in a dance competition. We happened to win the contest and that gave me the real boost,” she tells how their 'mother-daughter' duo had left everyone who saw them on stage spellbound.

Dr Suman has since come to be known for her skills in dance too, apart from her professional repute. She is currently an associate professor at DMCH. “Though I have not turned a professional dancer or anything, still I like to give tips to women who want to learn dancing in my friend circle,” she says.

“I have now realised the importance of nurturing a hobby. There is nothing more refreshing than a good hobby. I was always interested in dancing and would participate in giddha competitions at the school and college level but after I underwent formal training along with my daughters, I realised how much I wanted it.”

Sharing her love of dancing, Dr Suman narrates how she surprised the guests at her wedding by her dancing skills. “Almost every second person wants to learn dancing now but there are only a few who would like to take it further and learn it sincerely. Things were, however, different earlier. I had danced at my wedding with so much vigour that it left everyone surprised.”
