Chandigarh The National Health Insurance Scheme will now be implemented in all the districts of Haryana. Under the scheme, three members of families living below poverty line will be provided free treatment in authorised private hospitals. An official spokesman said families living below poverty line are provided all types of basic health facilities under the National Health Insurance Scheme. It was earlier implemented in Faridabad, Palwal, Yamunangar, Panipat, Bhiwani, Ambala, Rohtak, Mewat and Hisar districts.

Now, the Centre has decided to extend this scheme to the other twelve districts of the state. He said under the scheme, private hospitals were authorised for the treatment and smart cards are issued to the families living below poverty line.

This comprehensive scheme has been implemented by the Centre all over the country in collaboration with the leading private insurance and banking company ICICI Lombard General Insurance. Three members of any eligible family can avail the benefit under the scheme. The government would bear the total insurance amount up to Rs 30,000 for the health facilities to these families.

With the launch of this scheme, the poor people who could not afford treatment can now avail the facility of private hospitals. A state-level workshop of the scheme would also be organised at Karnal on February 7.
