Police said that in addition to Anand’s two servants, he had employed one Raju as a cook on Monday. “The retired Major had not got Raju verified by the police as he was introduced to him by one of his other servants,” said a senior police officer.
On Wednesday afternoon, Raju served the victim and the other two domestic helps lunch mixed with poison. All three fell unconscious after consuming the food.
Raju then ransacked the entire house and stole jewellery, cash, mobile phone, etc. An estimate worth of the robbed articles has not been made yet, said police.
“Geetanjali, Major Anand’s daughter, called from Dubai on Wednesday but there was no response. She kept on calling and after a long time Anand answered and told her what had happened. She called up her brother, Umesh, who stays at Sainik Farms with his wife and children,” said a senior police officer.
Umesh and their family doctor arrived at Anand’s house and rushed the victim to Apollo Hospital. He was discharged on Friday at 2 pm.
Later, Umesh hired a security guard to stay vigil outside Anand’s house. “I am just doing my duty. They have locked the door and even I am not allowed inside,” he said.
Around 3.30 pm, Anand and his wife were taken to Umesh’s house.
