Delhi Lt Governor Tejendra Khanna, was the chief guest at the inauguration of the annual conference of the NPSC at Springdales Dhaula Kuan, on Friday. The convocation was presided over by Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit on Saturday.

The CM exhorted private schools to cooperate in the spread of elementary education and recommend innovations to the government.

Prominent speakers included Jayati Ghosh, member, National Knowledge Commission, Justice Sanjay K Kaul of the Delhi High Court and K K Vashisht of the NCERT, among others.

The need to reduce stress was discussed. “At times parents refuse to accept that their child learns in a manner that is different from other children. We need to counsel parents to reduce pressure,” said Anuradha Joshi, principal, Sardar Patel Vidyalaya.

“We should document all innovations and share them with other schools as well as the NCERT,” suggested principal, Laxman Public School, Usha Ram.

The problems with the implementation of the Sixth Pay Commission were also discussed.

“The government is trying to impose restrictions on the authority of school managements,” said M L Babbar, former principal Air Force School and member of the NCERT governing body.
