Ahmedabad The state education department has set up a helpline for the students of standard X and XII. The helpline having number 1800 233 5500 has been set up to help those who are stressed because of the forthcoming board examinations.

In addition to this, the Vadodara District Education Board has set up a panel comprising doctors, psychologists, counsellors, retired principals and teachers to guide the students on various psychological issues faced by the students before the exams. “Many students seem to forget everything before exams. The counsellors will also help them with memorising techniques or ways of keeping tension down,” said R K Patel, Vadodara District Education Officer.

Jatin Pandya, a teacher who has been counselling students in the programme for the last few years, said, “We have been getting queries about the board exams as well as calls pertaining to psychological issues.”

He said once he received a call from a student in Godhra who did not know that the time table of the exam had already been declared. “Even parents tend to stay extremely depressed and tense when their wards sit for the exams,” said Pandya. The district education office has issued information about the members of the counselling panel and their contact numbers. The students and their relatives can contact them between 8 am and 8 pm from March 1 to 31.
