Hepatitis B cases reported in Kheda, Ahmedabad

Ahmedabad While the outbreak of Hepatitis-B continues to torment Modasa and its neighbouring areas, cases have also been reported from Kheda and Ahmedabad.

One person from Kapadvanj town of Kheda district and two from Ahmedabad are reported to have been diagnosed with the disease.

Those afflicted have been identified as Arjunsinh Parmar (55), a farmer from Kapadvanj, Pankaj Solanki (a class X student) and Rahul Prajapati (20). Solanki and Prajapati are from Ahmedabad.

Fourteen patients are undergoing treatment for at the Civil Hospital in Ahmedabad. Meanwhile, the death toll in the hospital due to the disease rose to 12 on Tuesday.

“The B-8 ward of the hospital has been isolated. A team of doctors and other medical staff led by Dr A N Shah is taking care of the patients,” said the hospital superintendent, Dr M M Anchalia.

Anchalia said the team of doctors from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) and the Institute of Liver & Biliary Sciences, Delhi, had expressed their satisfaction over the handling of the situation at the hospital during their visit last week.

Anchalia said, “We have administered vaccines to all our staff members. No charges are being taken for medicines and medical tests.”

He said a tie up with the U N Mehta Kidney Hospital has also been made.
