Ludhiana This 10-year-old girl hogged the limelight by winning an international yoga championship. A Class V student in the Sat Paul Mittal School, Damini Mahajan has more than a dozen medals to her credit. Last year, she won gold medals in the state and national championships of yoga. “Hardwork and perseverance is the key to my success,” says the young achiever who wants to be doctor and a yoga trainer.

With a flexible body, Damini started practising yoga when she was seven years old. She said, “My yoga coach Surya Vedant taught me different aasans.” To keep herself on the right track, she practices these positions for more than half an hour every day.

She shifted to Sat Paul Mittal School last year only. An alumnus of BCM School on the Chandigarh Road, she had to give up the opportunity of participating in the World Yoga Championship held in Egypt as she could not arrange for sponsors. “I am thankful to my school for recognising my talent and giving me scholarship. This year I was selected for the international yoga championship in Italy but my parents did not allow me to go there alone.”

A fan of Katrina Kaif, this young achiever is optimistic about her future. She says, “I want to bring laurels to my country by winning accolades in foreign land. One day I will fulfill this with my ability.”
