Youngsters get together to spread the message of gender equality

This is especially for her...Titled Nanhi Chidiya, the two-minute animation film by the students of MadArts, Jaspal Bhatti’s film school, celebrates the birth of a child and not of a girl or boy, “the idea is to make people aware that having a girl child is as much a reason to celebrate,” quip Dinesh and Sukhwinder, who along with Jagandeep and Pankaj have worked on the animation and modelling. With sleek background effects by Sunil Patni, voice-overs by Jaspal Bhatti, Savita Bhatti, Brijesh Ahuja and Shammi Narang and directed by Jasraj Singh Bhatti, Nanhi Chidiya will be shown on various channels, schools and all portals possible. Elsewhere, at MCM DAV College, Sector 36, students presented a play and dance highlighting the importance of the girl child, with the chief guest on the occasion, Kamlesh, Mayor of the City, urging girls to be self-reliant and fight against female foeticide.

While members of Youth United are distributing pamphlets and holding marches for the cause, at AIESEC the issue has become a part of their networking session. “We often invite NGO heads to come and discuss the issue. From talking about statistics, gender sensitization, to finding ways to change the mind, we do it all,” says Sahil Dewan of AIESEC, who hopes that their projects on the girl child will see positive results.
