General Manager of Western Railway Anoop Krishna Zingeran dedicated both the museum and the steam engine to the public at a function here.
The rail museum has been opened to share with the commuters and the general public, the cultural, economic and technical heritage of the railways.
The annual footfalls at Ahmedabad Railway station is over a lakh and railway officials are expecting them to be better aware about the history and the evolution of the railways.
“Atit Gaurav”— the steam locomotive that has been put on display was purchased in 1938 at a princely sum of Rs. 51,000 from W G Vangnal Ltd of England.
The engine has a capacity to store 3 tonnes of coal and 1400 gallons of water and used to operate like a narrow gauge passenger train between Pratapnagar, Baroda and Dabhoi.
On this occasion Uttam Chand, Chief Administrative Officer, A K Vora, Chief Electrical Engineer, Dr S S Jetli, C Agarwal, Chief Engineer, S C Agarwal, Chief Mechanical Engineer, P V Murthi, Chief Trafic Manager and other Divisional and Branch Officers were also present.
