Supti’s husband Sujit Munshi has filed a petition alleging that Haldar was against their marriage and has now illegally confined her at an unknown location. She has been missing since October 1, 2007.

Abhiraj Trivedi, Munshi’s counsel, said they filed the petition in the High Court on January 26, and the summonses were issued on January 31. “The HC has asked Haldar, Thakur and the Karelibaug police inspector to appear before the bench and produce Supti on or before February 15,” Trivedi said.

He said they argued before a bench comprising Gujarat Chief Justice Y R Meena and Justice J C Upadhyay that Supti's father had held her against her wish for the last three months and 20 days.

According to Trivedi, Munshi and Supti are legally married and were living in Vadodara when her father managed to get a court order from the Barasat court in West Bengal, where he is presently living. “Mr Haldar misrepresented his case and claimed that my client had illegally confined his daughter. The court proceedings required Supti’s presence. She was taken there on October 1 and has not been heard of since,” he added.

He went on to say that Munshi has proofs, including photographs and witnesses, supporting the legality of the marriage.

Trivedi said they have a strong case, as Supti, in a letter to the Home Minister and the Director General of Police on June 13, 2007, had stated that her father was against her marriage with Munshi and was harassing her. “In the letter, Supti also mentioned that if anything happened to her, then her father and former police commissioner P C Thakur should be held responsible,” he said.
