Ahmedabad Air Chief Marshal F H Major advised all commanders under the South Western Air Command (SWAC) to maintain a very high-level of operational preparedness round the clock. This follows an increased perception of possible terror attacks and intelligence inputs about business establishments on the coastline being “targets”.

Major was addressing the annual commanders’ conference, which was formally inaugurated on Monday at SWAC HQ in Gandhinagar.

While complimenting the commanders for their sterling performance last year, the Air Chief gave a broad overview of latest geopolitical situation prevailing in the Indian sub-continent.

He added that the Centre is committed to the modernisation needs of the Indian Air Force and all efforts are being made to put this on a fast track. “As the Air Force capabilities are growing and in transition, the Centre is taking effective steps to induct new high-tech equipment, without financial constraints,” he said.

The Air chief also indicated that the Indian Air Force was in transition and that all personnel have to continuously update their knowledge and training status. “There is also a need for complete synergy between the three services (Army, Navy and Air Force) to meet the present security challenges,” he added.

Later, he awarded trophies to various units for their outstanding performance in different fields.

Award for the Best Fighter Squadron went to the Jaguar Squadron based in Jamnagar. While Helicopter Flight based at Jodhpur bagged the best Helicopter/ Transport unit award, the “Pride of SWAC” trophy went to Air Force Station, Pune.

He also visited the Chiloda Project site in Gandhinagar, where new SWAC headquater-campus is being built. The Air chief also met Governor Nawal Kishore Sharma after the function.
