Shimla The Himachal state BJP election committee is set to meet in Delhi on January 19 to finalise candidates for the three remaining Lok Sabha seats in the state. The meeting comes hours before the party’s Central Election Committee meets. The CEC meeting is likely to be extended till January 21.

And with barely a day to go for the crucial meet, ticket-seekers, including former MP Maheshwar Singh, MLA Rajan Sushant; Dr Rajeev Bhardwaj, a close aide of former CM Shanta Kumar; Virender Kashyap and H N Kashyap, have shifted base to Delhi.

In charge, state BJP affairs, Satya Pal Jain said: “The state committee would hand over the final list of names to the national committee for a decision. If consensus does not emerge, more than one name for each parliamentary constituency would be forwarded.”

The candidature of Anurag Thakur, the sitting MP, has already been declared from Hamirpur.

Two names each for the three seats — Shimla, Mandi and Kangra, are doing the rounds. While Virender Kashyap and H N Kashyap are pitched against each other for the Shimla seat, Dr. Rajan Sushant and Dr. Rajeev Bhardwaj are being considered for Kangra. For Mandi, the choice is between Maheshwar Singh and state BJP president Jai Ram Thakur, who is reported to be reluctant to leave the state turf. Shanta Kumar’s word is likely to have a bearing on the name for Kangra seat, which means good news for Dr Bhardwaj.

Though the BJP has given reservation to women within the party and the name of Sheila Devi was doing the rounds for Shimla seat, sources said there is little hope for a woman candidate.
