The only goal of the match came in the 30th minute when a cross by Jasbir Singh from the left flank was headed home by Hind-Ahbab’s forward Hitender Singh Rawat.
Both teams got equal opportunities to score but their respective forwards, particularly of Garhwal Heroes, failed to capitalise on the chances created by their midfielders. Ahbab’s custodian, Mohd. Atif, did not have much to do under the bar as all the shots were either blocked by the alert defenders or went over the post.
Right from the start, Ahbab dominated the match and the ball was seen more in the Garhwal half as their defenders and midfielders toiled hard to fight the chilly breeze and Ahbab’s forwards but failed to stop Hitender from scoring.
Garhwal, who were favourites to win the encounter, were completely off colour and looked tired and exhausted as their players found it difficult to last 90 minutes. Even the three Nigerian recruits—Ini Emannuel, Henry Jerome Etuke and Poupangai Palmei—couldn’t help Garhwal as they hardly got a chance to show their skills. Ahbab played with short and accurate passes and their defence was too strong for the Garhwal Heroes to break.
