Chandigarh, March 1 The UT Education Department today dismissed a Punjabi teacher of Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 47. Meanwhile, one more fake degree case has been traced.

Daljit Kaur Sandhu, a teacher of GMSSS 47, had been on leave since November 2006. even though it had expired on May 20 the following year. Director Public Instructions (Schools) S K Setia said despite repeated written messages and notices to her, she did not join duty. She was charge sheeted a few months ago but she has failed to report till date. On the basis of the inquiry report, the department has taken disciplinary action against her.

In another case, as part of the campaign started by the Education Department to verify the degrees of teachers of city schools, Nirmala Saini, a Hindi teacher of Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 22, was found to have fake degree certificates.

She reportedly completed her degree from Gandhi Vidyapeeth Prayag University, Allahabad, which is unrecognised as per the list issued by UGC recently.

Saini had joined as a Hindi teacher in January 1990 on the basis of this degree. Setia said the Education Department has issued a showcause notice to her to produce supporting documents which may prove the degree genuine.

The department also charge-sheeted a peon Sukhdev who was working as a chowkidar when a theft of five computers occurred in Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 23. He is presently working as a peon in GMSSS 32. The Department has framed charges of misconduct against him for remaining negligent and careless towards his duty.
