Panchkula The maxi cab involved in the hit-and-run case of September 12, 2008, which left a Sector-9 resident, Navneet Vohra, bedridden for life, was impounded on Tuesday. The Panchkula police also arrested driver, Amarjeet Singh.

A physically challenged K N Vohra, 69, Navneet’s father, had been running from pillar to post for justice ever since his son, the only earning hand of the family, met with the accident.

“We impounded the maxi cab (CH 02A 0053) today and arrested the driver, Amarjeet Singh, a resident of Parol village in Mohali district. He was produced in the district court, which granted him bail,” said Surjit Kumar, in-charge of the Sector-10 police post.

“For me, something impossible has happened as we had lost all hope for justice.

It was very painful when my son was in the intensive care unit and the police came to me asking for my signatures on some papers, saying they would close the case since records were not available.

After the matter was reported in Newsline, the police came into action and managed to trace the vehicle and also the driver,” said Vohra.

He added that while the arrest would not cure his son, he would try to get some compensation for his son.
