Lucknow The Lucknow Municipal Corporation (LMC) may claim to have removed all political hoardings and banners from public places. But a check on ground portrays an entirely different picture.

Hundreds of hoarding of the ruling party depicting general secretary Akhilesh Das and the probable BSP candidate for Lucknow Lok Sabha seat can be spotted in various areas.

“By Thursday, all hoardings and other publicity materials have already been removed. Zonal officers have been asked to keep patrolling the areas and ensure that no new hoardings are put up, unless the candidate has obtained permission from the returning officer,” said A C Sinha, Additional Municipal Commissioner.

The hoardings and banners have, however, been removed only from the main roads. Several of these were still spotted in Alambagh, Gomti Nagar, Sadar and other localities on Thursday afternoon. Life-size hoardings of BSP were seen at the parks near Akhilesh Das’s residence in Purana Qila.

Although it is the responsibility of the political parties and their leaders to remove their hoardings, it is the LMC which is doing the job. Sinha said since the parties had requested LMC for help, the corporation removed their publicity materials.

Asked whether the corporation would recover the expenditure from political parties and candidates, Sinha said: “There is a technical problem. These hoardings and banners were put up before March 3 when the model code of conduct came into force. We have yet not decided what should be done.”
