Pune Hockey would continue to be the national game of the country, Indian Olympic Association (IOA) president Suresh Kalmadi said here on Tuesday. He was reacting to the recent comments made by former Indian cricket captain Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi that cricket should be made India's national game. "Hockey is and will continue to be the national game of India," Kalmadi, who is heading the ad-hoc committee set up to look after affairs of the disbanded Indian Hockey Federation, told reporters.

He said that steps have been initiated to improve the standard of the game in the country and bring back the past glory. The IHF will recruit foreign coaches and trainers for the hockey teams at various levels in the country, Kalmadi said, adding that the junior level team has delivered good performances in the recent past.
