Kolkata Demanding that elections at Shyamaprasad Mukherjee College, postponed after on-campus violence on January 30, be conducted at the earliest, the CPM-backed SFI has sought action against those responsible for violence during college elections. “We want the authorities of Shyamaprasad College to announce the fresh dates for elections. Students should have access to their democratic rights,” said Dhrubojyoti Chakraborty, Kolkata district secretary, SFI.

SFI alleged that Trinamool Congress workers forced their way into the college on January 30 and caused violence. “In most of the cases, violence occurred on the streets when Trinamool workers interfered with college elections,” said Chakraborty. In other incident reported from the J B Roy Ayurveda College in

Ultadanga, the authorities have ordered students to vacate the hostel for two months till April, 2010, following the recent campus violence. SFI has demanded that the college takes action against the miscreants, but allow students to use the hostel facilities.
