Kolkata Fourteen days after EFR Special Inspector General Benoy Chakrabarty sent his reply to the showcause notice issued to him, Home Secretary Ardhendu Sen today said that he has not received any letter from him till date.

On February 20, Chakrabarty had addressed a press conference at Salua — covering his face with a black cloth — alleging that it was because of the West Midnapore SP Manoj Verma that the EFR camp at Silda could not be shifted to a safer place. The camp was attacked by the Maoists resulting in the death of 24 personnel.

EFR Additional Director General Partha Bhattacharya sent a showcause notice to the officer on February 21, asking him why action should not be taken against him for addressing a press conference without proper authorisation.

The very next day Chakrabarty had submitted his reply, copies of which were sent to Director General of Police Bhupinder Singh and the home secretary.

Sen, however, today said: “I have not received any report. So I cannot say whether the state government is taking any action against the officer.”
