Kolkata A businessman was shot at by three unidentified assailants in Hooghly’s Khanabati village on Saturday night.

The police said Dhananjoy Purakayasta (53), who owns a jewellery shop at Chanditola Bazar, is battling for life at a private nursing home in Chanditola.

Although the motive of the assailants has not been ascertained, the police suspect personal enmity behind the attack.

According to the police, the attackers came on two bicycles and shot at Purakayasta near his home and fled from the spot.

The businessman was immediately rushed to the Chanditola Rural Hospital, where he was operated upon. Later, he was shifted to a private nursing home.

“A search has been launched to identify the assailants,” a district police officer said.
