He was just 14 when Aditya Thackeray, the grandson of Shiv Sena supreme, Bal Thackeray and son of Uddhav Thackeray, got inspired to express himself through shades of poetry. "It's very strange but I was driving back from my tuition when I saw a flower fall on the bonnet of my car and I started keying in words on my phone," the 17-year-old says. After this instance, Thackeray started penning down his feelings as and when they fleeted in. Considering that his grandfather is a cartoonist and father an ardent wildlife photographer, his foray into the creative world seems not so surprising. After releasing his first collection of poetry called My Thoughts in White and Black last year, Thackeray is all set to hit the music world now with his album Umeed to promote which he was in Pune on Wednesday evening.

A collection of eight poems all immersed in music by composer Mayuresh Pai, his poems have been rendered by some of the best Bollywood singers like Kailash Kher, Shankar Mahadevan, Suresh Wadkar, Sunidhi Chauhan, Kunal Ganjawala and the likes. But the USP according to Thackeray lies in the fact that despite being a musical album all the listeners get is sheer poetry. "It is still open to interpretation and personal understanding," he says. One of the numbers, Halke Halke… is the only one that was composed first and then written. "Pai had a composition, to which I attached words. It has a 70s feel to it," he says.

And for those who thought the lad was merely dabbling in these arts before he walked the path of politics or Bollywood are in for disappointment. "See I am a poet and I prefer to stay in my own world. And the fact is that when you are write poetry, most of your time goes in a trance," he says. Presently finishing his twelfth standard Thackeray is not at all nervous about his present venture. Besides the family's support, it's his overwhelming excitement that's giving him a high. "I think my happiness is overpowering my nervousness," he says.
