The accused, Ramesh Patel, a resident of Nadiad, had sought the bribe from one Anjana Patel, who was seeking subsidy for her mango saplings as per a government scheme.
Patel, who resides at a Vishwamitri Road society, owns a farmland in Shinor, where she had planted around 250 mango saplings a year ago costing around Rs 33,345.
She had then sought a subsidy on the basis of a circular dated September 2007, and had also filled up the requisite government forms in this regard.
On February 11, the accused telephoned Patel and said that her cheque of Rs 12,480 had been sanctioned and she could collect the same, but added that she should also pay him Rs 1,300 as a ten per cent commission.
Not wanting to bribe, Anjana instead contacted the Anti Corruption Bureau office and with the assistance of inspector M J Pathan, assistant director M M Malek and three constables caught him red handed in his office.
