Kolkata, March 1 A traffic constable, who was regulating vehicle movement in front of the Nilratan Sarkar Medical College and Hospital (NRS), was beaten black and blue by Group D employees of the hospital today morning following an altercation over traffic control. Chinmoy Kundu sustained minor injuries on his face and head and was admitted to the same hospital.

The police, later, arrested Ranjan Singh, the accused. “Singh was displeased with Kundu over the manner he was controlling traffic on the road and beat him up,” said Parthosarathi Ghosh, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Eastern Suburban Division).

The incident took place around 10 am when a car was waiting at the hospital gate to leave. Kundu stopped the car and allowed the traffic to pass on the main road. Peeved by the delay, Singh began an argument with the constable that went out of control.

Other Group D staff of the hospital soon joined Singh in beating the constable.

A criminal case had been initiated against the guilty.
