Hosts have reason to worry against Services

New Delhi, March 4 With 14 points from four encounters, Delhi would be looking forward to win their encounter against the Services to qualify for the pre-quarterfinals of the Ranji Trophy one-dayers, when they meet at the Ferozeshah Kotla on Wednesday.

While Delhi tackle Services, they have another cause of worry — the Punjab-Himachal encounter that would be played out at the Jamia ground.

Like Delhi, Punjab are also on 14 points and if they beat Himachal tomorrow they will go up to 16 points. If Delhi’s batting collapses again, like it did against Haryana, their only chance of making it to the pre-quarterfinal stage would be if they manage with a better run-rate.

Another major cause of concern for Delhi would be the absence of Mayank Tehlan and Rajat Bhatia in the line up, as both of them are nursing injuries and are to be rested. “Mayank and Rajat are expected to take the bench against Services and we might give two youngsters, Aditya Jain and Gaurav Chabra, a chance. They have been sitting out till now. It has been a while since they got a chance too,” Delhi coach Vijay Dahiya said on Tuesday.

Delhi, though, haven’t finalised on their playing XI yet and Dahiya says that the team composition would be decided only in the morning after the wicket is assessed on match day.

The coach was not too concerned about the Punjab team, who are on equal points. “We are not at all concerned about the fact that Punjab too have 14 points. We will play our natural game and will try to field in our best XI players. Punjab’s match and their result will not bother our team,” said Dahiya.

Also on Wednesday, Haryana will take on Jammu Kashmir. The top two teams will make it to the pre-quarterfinals.
