Lucknow, February 13 The Uttar Pradesh Assembly witnessed a light moment today when Chief Minister Mayawati burst into laughter during the over two-hour long speech of Leader of the Opposition Mulayam Singh Yadav.

Ruling Bahujan Samaj Party members repeatedly interrupted Yadav when he referred to the party’s fund-raising activities and other issues criticising the government.

Exasperated by the frequent disruptions, Yadav said: "Mukhyamantriji, your party members are making noise because you are present in the House and they crave to be noticed by you. But I caution you to be wary of sycophants, who have always created trouble for tall leaders like you."

He added: "I am telling you this fact from my own experiences with such supporters." The House burst into laughter with Mayawati joining in as well.

Considering the bitter relations between the SP and the BSP ever since the latter walked out of the coalition on June 1, 1995, seeing the BSP leader smiling today on her bete noire’s observation was certainly a rare occasion.
