Even though the corporators had anticipated that the proposal will get passed on Thursday, the NCP-Congress voted in favour of taking a decision after a month.

Nevertheless, Congress corporator Avinash Salve has tendered his resignation from the standing committee membership. Some of the corporators who have also threatened to resign include Subhash Jagtap, Bapu Karne, Sunil Gogale, Haneef Shaikh (NCP), Sagar Malkar (Shiv Sena), Siddharth Dhende (Congress).

As per the proposal, the Pune Municipal Corporation has proposed to raise 2,087 hutments in the first phase of the BSUP scheme in Yerwada. The total cost of the project is Rs 62 crore. On February 5, the central government had approved construction of 4,000 housing units under this scheme, with a total carpet area of 25 sq metre.

However, Salve and other corporators have alleged that the NCP and Congress standing committee members voted against the proposal to be approved on Thursday.

Salve said, “We wanted this proposal to be approved as soon as possible. While the standing committee approved about 60 other proposals, they intentionally opposed this particular proposal. Now, the problem is that, after this the next standing committee meeting will be held in March, and around that time, election code of conduct will come into force. After the elections, it will be monsoon time which will pose problems for construction and by August the assembly elections code of conduct will come into effect.”

Dhende and Karne said that there should now be a special meeting in order to push the proposal ahead quickly.
