Mumbai, January 31 A 30-year-old housewife from Anand district was arrested on Thursday for allegedly presenting a forged UK visa, police said. Renukaben alias Nehaben Yogesh Patel was arrested by the city police crime branch from the UK Consulate following a tipoff.

A forged passport was also recovered from her possession. Authorities said the accused procured a fake passport after destroying the original following her overstay in the UK.

She travelled back on temporary papers, said a senior police official.

“Her husband got a job in the UK again in September last year following which Renukaben made a new passport identifying herself as Nehaben by submitting forged documents. She wanted to go to the UK and join her husband when she was arrested at the UK consulate yesterday. Renukaben claims to have done the forging herself, but we are investigating further,” said the officer.

Renukaben has been remanded in police custody till February 5 by a local court.
