MHADA has filed a cheating complaint against a realty agent’s firm for promising MHADA flats to prospective buyers during the last allotment of 870 flats at Malvani in Malad. These 180 sq ft flats, meant for the Economically Weaker Sections, were priced at Rs 4 lakh each. The firm had allegedly issued advertisements, in an English tabloid and a Marathi daily, for a 1-bedroom flat priced at Rs 4.30 lakh in Malvani where the additional Rs 30,000 was to be the agent’s commission.

“However, the case was shut as the agent told the police during interrogation that the cost of his flats were actually Rs 14.30 lakh and what had appeared in the ads were actually a misnomer,” said MHADA’s vigilance chief Jawahar Singh.

He added that though the advertisements nowhere made any reference to MHADA flats, a site visit revealed that there were no other projects in the area. “We found that there were no projects other than the one by MHADA in the area,” said Singh, who on Wednesday lodged a complaint with the local police.
