Chandigarh The Chandigarh Police has asked the Food and Civil Supplies Department, Chandigarh, Regional Passport Office at Chandigarh and passport office at Jalandhar to provide them with data pertaining to the ration card and passports procured by Gurbhej Singh, who was arrested last year with 24.5 kg explosives.

Gurbhej was allegedly assisted by the chairman of Gurdwara Santsar trust Swaroop Singh in procuring passports on his fake ration card and has been mentioned as the cousin of Swaroop Singh in the latter’s ration card.

The police said they have moved an application in the district courts for the production warrant of Gurbhej Singh, presently lodged in the Ludhiana jail.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (Special Crime Investigation Cell) Satbir Singh said they have started investigations to nab those involved in assisting Gurbhej in procuring the ration cards and passports on fake documents.

The police have also written to the immigration office for information on the countries Gurbhej had travelled on the passports. Sources said that Gurbhej had travelled twice to Germany where he reportedly met Swaroop Singh at a gurdwara in Hamburg.

The regional passport office has been asked to explain how Gurbhej managed to get the passport made on a fake ration card. The police have also initiated an inquiry against the officials involved in passing the verification report for Gurbhej Singh.

The police, meanwhile, issued lookout notices for Swaroop Singh and one Gurdeep Singh in connection with the Sector-38 gurdwara clash and their alleged involvement with militants. All airports across the country have been alerted to ensure that Swaroop does not escape.
