Locations for the schools have already been decided, with two slotted for Shahpur and Nurpur in Kangra, and two more in Chamba and Saho. Opening residential schools for nomadic children will foster an atmosphere of mutuality and afford them equal educational opportunities, Dhumal said.

In addition, the government is considering allotting settlement land for nomadic Gujjar families, with the CM listing out bringing the community into mainstream society as one of the priorities of the state.

Dhumal said that the permanent settlement of Gujjar families will help them integrate into the local social system and lead socially and economically secure lives.

Many Gujjar families have already been provided with land and construction of infrastructural facilities for rehabilitating the remaining are underway, he added.
