As part of a separate project, the HUDA is working out a plan on its roads as per the recommendations by the traffic police here. “Work is currently on at the crossing near Signature Towers. Our purpose of constructing a slip road is primarily to segregate the traffic taking a left turn towards Manesar from the traffic turning right towards the toll plaza. It will also help in reducing the average waiting time at the crossing,” said G Anupama, administrator, HUDA.
“Traffic flow at junctions like the IFFCO Chowk and Subhash Chowk touches 10,000 vehicles per hour during peak hours. We had recommended building these diversions to reduce the traffic load to HUDA,” said DCP (Traffic) Satinder Kumar who added that the step would help ease pressure on the department to provide the manpower required to man these junctions.
HUDA has not allocated separate funds for the project, said G Anupama. “We have sufficient funds and it is also a requirement-based project,” she added.
When asked what held the project up for so long, both police officers as well as the administration cited the unavailability of land required to build the slip roads. “We are still in the process of acquiring land as per need,” said an authority official.
The project, however, drew mixed reactions from commuters. “If the project is turned to reality, it will save us the time we spend standing still in this bumper-to-bumper traffic,” said Dr Priyanka Mathur Ghosh, a resident of Dwarka.
