Mumbai The state ATS is on the lookout for a local businessman who could have information on the operations and local network of the drug racket allegedly run by arrested IPS officer Saji Mohan, ATS sources said today.

Investigations also reveal that Mohan was in dire need of money for a new house worth Rs 62 lakh in Kochi, besides a Honda Civic car he is believed to have bought on January 1.

The suspect the police are looking for is known only as Hafiz. “Interrogation of the arrested accused revealed the name of a local contact, Hafiz. He is a businessman with close links to Mohan and was given heroin to be sold in the city,” said an ATS official.

“Teams are on the lookout for Hafiz. We believe he can give vital information on Mohan’s local network and the magnitude of the racket,” said the officer.

According to ATS sources, Mohan has told interrogators that he was in desperate need of money. “Investigations have revealed that he was in dire need of money to pay for a new house in Kochi. The house costs about Rs 62 lakh for which he had taken a loan of Rs 40 lakh and also borrowed from his father. We are gathering details of the procurement. Besides this, he had to pay for the Honda Civic he bought on January 1,” said the officer.
