Mumbai A Sessions court on Tuesday convicted a woman and her lover for killing her husband. Salma Shaikh (33) and Imran Khan (28) were sentenced to life imprisonment after the court found them guilty of killing Salma’s husband Ansar Shaikh.

According to the Bandra police, on August 23 last year, Ansar had a fight with his wife after he came to know of her love affair with her long time friend Imran.

Following the fight Salma added an overdose of a tranquiliser to Ansar’s milk. As Ansar fell asleep, Imran entered the house, slit his throat and eloped with Salma.

According to the police, after spending a day in Mumbai the couple went to Imran’s native place Uttar Pradesh. Salma allegedly took her two kids along.

Two days later when the neighbours raised an alarm following foul smell from the decayed body police launched a search for the absconding wife.

Salma was traced in UP and narrated every detail of how the couple had planned the murder for several weeks before finally carrying it out. Imran was arrested along with Salma. Her children have been sent to a children’s home.

The prosecution in all examined 22 witnesses in the case.

Although Public Prosecutor P S Tavade asked for a death sentence, Sessions judge A M Tamboli convicted both the accused for life.
