Khan was here to spread the message on behalf of a liquor brand. Newsline culls out the quotable from his assortment of quotes. Here, three cheers:
On the health minister's message for him to shun smoking on screen and acting responsibly: “After 17 years and 60 films, I think I am one of the most responsible actors of the Indian film industry.”
On smoking or drinking: “I don’t encourage people to either drink or smoke — (my) hardest drink is Pepsi on the rocks. At the same time, I feel there shouldn’t be a blanket ban on anything. Rather, we should behave as responsible consumers. If you enjoy drinking, then don’t drive.
On his other passion: “I love sports — badminton, cricket, football, hockey... whatever. Mujhey kanchey bahut pasand hain (I love playing marbles). I hurt my back at a very young age and couldn’t become a sportsman, which is why I took to acting. I thank God for enabling me to buy the Kolkata team in the Indian Premier League. I bought it because I am unable to play myself.”
On issues with Health Minister Ramadoss: It’s just a misinterpretation. I didn’t snub the health minister. I am very impressed that he wants me not to smoke. I too want to quit smoking in real life (not reel life). I don’t endorse smoking and I don’t like anyone telling me personally what to do and what not to do. Anything negative in movies like fighting, firing, smoking, drinking and rapes are not for their glorification, but they are a part of characters. Films can't be all about good things or Gods and Goddesses.
