For a change, it’s not a kiss that characterises actor Emraan Hashmi’s just-released flick at the box office. Instead, what has got the actor kicked about Raaz— The Mystery Continues, the movie which released today, is the fact that it’s his first attempt at a completely new genre: horror. “Indian horror films have never been at par with Hollywood ones because all the unreal blood and gore have made them more comical than scary. Hopefully, Raaz... will change that,” says Hashmi, who plays the role of a painter in the film, who can see in the future and captures it on canvas.

Hashmi’s character in the movie has dark undertones, but the actor seems completely at ease with it. “Most of my life, I have been driven by negative feelings. I guess it was because of the fear of failing. But negative emotions like jealousy are real feelings, and I have always been in touch with my real side,” he says, unapologetically. In fact, he says that is why he picked up films like Kalyug, Jannat and Murder. “Everybody fights their own demons, so what’s wrong with portraying it on screen?” he asks.
