Pune, July 9: With Farhan Akhtar singing and Shankar -Ehsaan-Loy composing the music, Abhishek Kapoor’s Rock On promises a musical journey worth looking out for.

It's a scene straight out of a rock concert from the wild seventies. Four youngsters strumming the guitar coming up with chartbusters on love, life, winning and losing while a devoted group of followers do what you would expect from a rock-and-roll generation: head bang.

Even as the first teasers of Abhishek Kapoor’s upcoming movie Rock On hit the small screen, it’s the raw energy and the impressive line up of Farhan Akhtar, Arjun Rampal, Luke Kenny and Purab Kohli jamming that catches your attention. “We really had a blast during the recording sessions. It was all live, so there wasn’t any chance of a retake,” says Shankar Mahadevan, who, along with Ehsaan and Loy have composed the music for the movie.

The film revolves around four friends who put together a super band which never quite takes off. Ten years and several different jobs later, they again come together to go back to what they had once so strongly believed in, music. “It’s the central theme in the movie, but unlike other films, it doesn’t take the story forward or give an introspective peep into the character’s mind. They are all concert songs and often deal with things as irrelevant as a lost laundry bill or a half-read book,” smiles Mahadevan.

While the movie has six songs, there are nine in the album, and the music directors vouch that they are all true to the original genre. “We have maintained the purity throughout. It’s the stuff every rock buff dreams of,” he says.

Of course, the star attraction in the movie is Farhan Akhtar who makes his acting debut in the film. But, apart from the unruly mop that is part of his look in the movie, there’s another thing that Mahadevan insists will capture the fancy of the audience: his singing prowess. Akhtar has sung all the male vocals in the movie. “Even though he is not a trained musician, he always had a feel for music. We merely tipped him on performance techniques since it is a concert-oriented film and brushed up his singing skills a bit. Apart from that we let him do his stuff. By the end of the session we could see that he has done a fantastic job of it,” Mahadevan gushes. Get ready to jam.
