Ahmedabad A Marital dispute between two civil servants in the state has taken a twist with Rahul Gupta, a 2005 batch IAS officer of the Gujarat Cadre and the District Development Officer of Anand, getting an anticipatory bail from the Gujarat High Court.

Gupta is facing criminal charges, including a breach of trust and subjecting his wife Shalini Agarwal to cruelty. Shalini, also an IAS officer, is currently serving as under secretary in the General Administration Department at Gandhinagar.

On September 16 this year, Gupta had moved a divorce petition in a Gandhinagar court on grounds of adultery and infidelity.

Following this, Shalini lodged an FIR against Gupta in September with the Jaipur police in Rajasthan. She accused him and his parents — Babulal Gupta and Krishna Gupta — of making dowry demands and subjecting her to cruelty.

In the complaint, she said that in January 2007, she had gone to Jaipur with Rahul where he beat her and threatened to ruin her career.

Soon after the complaint was filed, Rahul went on a study leave to London till November 29, which was later extended till December 31. Later, he moved a petition before the High Court seeking anticipatory bail. Acting on it, justice Z K Saiyed granted Rahul and his parents temporary bail till December 30.

The couple had tied the knot in September 2005.

Shalini, an IAS officer of the Jammu and Kashmir cadre, was subsequently transferred to Gujarat as per the rules.
