Police are on alert and are taking no chances, as a government vehicle was used in the Parliament attack of 2001.
Police said that the incident was reported on Wednesday.
The IAS officer, Indrajeet Singh (48), had parked his Maruti 800 (CH 01N 0075) at 5.30 am outside Gurudwara Bangla Sahib.
After praying, he came out of the Gurudwara half-an-hour later to find the vehicle missing.
“When the officer inquired around, it was established that the vehicle was stolen. He immediately made a PCR call, following which a case was registered. Senior police officials reached the spot to make inquiries. The matter has been given high priority given the sticker it bears,” a senior police official said.
The car bears the nodal sticker of the Ministry of Home Affairs, giving the vehicle access to any ministry in the Capital. Police said that the car does not bear this year’s sticker, but can still access any ministry.
Police said that the registration number of the car has been flashed on the wireless and the district police are on their toes.
Singh is a former Resident Commissioner of Kerala House and resides in D1/24, Ravinder Nagar, Khan Market.
In the 2001 Parliament attack case, Rajya Sabha and Parliament stickers were used by five gunmen to enter the Parliament when it was in session.
Eight security personnel were killed and several others were injured in the attack.
