Mridula Dhindsa said in his complaint that she was surprised to receive an insurance policy worth Rs 3 lakh in July 2008 from the company, valid for three years, for which a premium of Rs 1,190 had been charged.
She said the policy was issued with respect to a loan of Rs 3 lakh taken by her, though at the time of signing the documents she had declined the offer for the policy. Despite several requests to cancel the policy, no action was taken, forcing her to move the consumer forum.
In its reply, ICICI stated that the policy was issued because she opted for it in the proposal form and that they asked her to return the policy document with a written request for cancellation which she never submitted.
The forum said the complainant had admitted that the signatures to obtain the life cover, as shown in the proposal form, were indeed hers but stated that they were taken by keeping her in the dark as they were obtained on several forms.
“The contention of the complainant appears to be correct that she did not know if she was signing such a form and if any policy was to be issued to her,” the forum said. The forum also cited a telephone complaint, lodged by Dhindsa’s father on July 24, 2008, stating that his daughter had not applied for a policy.
“It gives the very first reaction of the complainant which demonstrates that she had not asked for an insurance policy and it was thrusted on her by deceit and by concealing true facts. The company should have explained all the facts to the complainant before getting her signatures on the proposal form under the pretext that it was related to her car loan,” ruled the forum.

i have been duped of rs. 66000/- by icici produlife by giving me false comitment by the advisers of lock in period of 03 year whereas later i came to know that it of 10 year.
with due respect to all; it is surprising that the claim of the complainant that the documents were signed without knowing the contents has been accepted. this is not expected of a mature person of sane mind. if this is accepted; i feel that it gives room for misuse in future. i am a layman; experts' views are appreciated
