TMC leader’s bail rejected
The Calcutta High Court rejected the bail petition of Rahima Laskar, a local TMC leader of Canning, South 24-Parganas district, on Wednesday. Rahima was allegedly arrested illegally outside the chamber of an advocate at Beliaghata on August 30.
She was produced in the ACJM court at Alipore on August 31 and the court remanded her in judicial custody.
Public prosecutor Asimesh Goswami pleaded that the trial court has already framed charges against Rahima and she was one of main accused in a murder that took place in Canning in January 2010.
There were eyewitnesses into the murder and they already made a statement to the magistrate, he said. The Court should not grant the bail at this stage. The court accepted the argument and rejected her bail.
