The exhibition “If I Were a Saint”, curated by Johny M L and featuring the works of 10 artists in different media and styles, is also a celebration of the first anniversary of the Gallery Shrine and Empire at Friends Colony (West). On the face of it, the show may look like a funny take on the issue of divinity, but as the curator puts it, it also attempts to “explore the innards of our political, cultural and economic situation against the backdrop of small-scale wars and large-scale terrors”.
“The mystery associated with sainthood has always been a fascinating theme in religion. Johny’s idea, of artists interpreting this theme in their personal language, is an exciting project for our gallery,” says Shefali Somani, director of the Shrine Empire Gallery.
The overall appeal of the exhibition lies in its cheekiness and it very well underscores the style of the quirky gallery that keeps its exhibits lighthearted with a subtext of seriousness.
The show will be exhibited at the Travancore Art Gallery(Delhi) from December 1. Contact: 011-41327630
