“The institute plans to increase the intake of students to 20 by the next academic session (2008-09) from the present 10-12,” said Shekhar Chowdhury, director of the institute. The institute is also diversifying the admission criteria for research students by selecting students on the basis of GRE and GMAT scores rather than just CAT scores, he added.
“For the institute to maintain it’s character, continuous research and development models need to be developed which can be taught to the students.”
An increase in stipend and better accommodation for the researchers are some of the measures under consideration.
The institute has plans to increase seats in its other two programmes also. Intake in Post-graduate Programme for Executives (PGPEX) and Visionary Leadership in Manufacturing (PGPEX-VLM) will be hiked from 40 to 120 seats and 30 to 60 seats respectively.
On the issue of OBC reservations, the director said the institute is increasing the seats while hoping the proposal comes into operation by the next academic year.
