IIM grad dies after car hit by truck on New Year’s

New Delhi An Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Indore graduate, on his way back from a New Year party, died after a truck hit his car from behind in Mehrauli area of South Delhi. Police said that the deceased was in the backseat.

The incident was reported around 4.30 am on Thursday.

Deceased Nikhil Malhotra (26) was returning to his Green Park residence with four friends after a party in Mehrauli in a Santro car, when the accident took place on Chhattarpur road.

Malhotra had left his own car at a friend’s house and went to the party with his school friends, Nidhi Rastogi and Geetika Sarin.

They left the party after one Nikhil, a resident of Gautam Nagar, offered to drop them in his Santro car. Niti, a resident of CR Park, was also in the car.

Police said after the accident, someone in the car made a call to the police, but by the time they reached, the truck driver had fled with the truck.

All the five were rushed to the AIIMS Trauma Centre, where Malhotra was declared dead on arrival. His friend, Geetika sustained minor injuries and was discharged after first aid.

Malhotra worked in an non- governmental organisation, Disha. A case of causing death due to negligence has been registered against unknown assailants and the police are on the lookout for the truck and the driver.
