J Ramkumar, Assistant Professor at Manufacturing Sciences Laboratory in the Department of Mechanical Engineering of the institute, alongwith Pradip Paik of Advanced Nano Engineering Materials Laboratory was presented the award in the Material Sciences category.
Director of the institute, Sanjay G Dhande, said: “It was a proud moment for the IITians and also a source of inspiration for young students.”
He added that Ramkumar, who did his doctorate from IIT, Madras, is the secretary of the Kanpur chapter of Indian Society for Advancement of Materials and Processing Engineering and has worked in the fields of manufacturing science, machining processes, condition monitoring, composite materials, tribology, non-destructive testing. Paik earned his BTech in ceramic engineering from the University College of Science and Technology, Calcutta and MTech in materials science from IIT-K. As part of his masters’ work, Paik had also participated in the project “Synthesis and Characterisation of Nanomaterial”, funded by Ministry of Human Resources and Development. “Presently, he is a core member of Professor Kamal K Kar’s research group as a doctoral fellow working on nanomaterials,” Dhande said. In the award ceremony, IIT-K was the only institute that received two out of the total 14 awards given out in different categories of science.
