Ludhiana Punjab Federation of University and College Teachers Organisation (PFUCTO) held its executive meeting today where it discussed the notification of new UGC pay scales issued by Ministry of Human Resource Development, and its implementation in Punjab.

The meeting which was presided over by Dr SS Dhillon and hosted by Punjab Agricultural University Teachers Association (PAUTA), was attended by Punjab Federation of University Teachers Associations (PFUTA), Punjab Government College Teachers Association (PGCTA) and Punjab and Chandigarh College Teachers Union (PCCTU).

After the meeting, PFUCTO appealed to Chief Minister Prakash Singh Badal to immediately implement the revised pay scales notified by Union Ministry of Human Resource Development in toto. The government will bear 80% of the liability arising out of pay revision for the period January 1, 2006 to March 31, 2010.

The state governments, it may be mentioned, are required to implement the scheme of pay scales as a composite scheme to avail the financial assistance from the Central government. In a joint statement, Dr SS Dhillon and Dr Jagwant Singh, president and general secretary of PFUCTO, respectively, hoped the government would implement the scheme at the earliest and would not force the university and college teachers’ hands to start agitation at the peak of academic session.
