A first of its kind in the city, the course will enable people learn the basics of the sign language to make communication with the hearing impaired easy.
The course is the brainchild of Anu Kumar, Principal, Stepping Stones School, along with Dr Surinder Randhawa, a specialist in education for the hearing impaired and Gurmeet Gill, coordinator of the ISL course.
“Communication is one of the basic needs as well as requirement of everyone, especially those who are unable to hear and share their thoughts with others. The course is an effort to bring everybody on a common platform of communication,” said Kumar.
The course is open for all but the batches will be separate for the normal students and the hearing impaired. After clearing the ‘A’ level of the course, students will graduate to the other levels. The highlight of the course is that in both the batches, the teacher will be a hearing impaired. “The teacher will thus be able to connect with people in a better way. The foremost objective of the course is to make the channels of communication easy and accessible,” Kumar added.
Those participating in the course will be awarded a certificate from the National Institute of Hearing Handicapped, Mumbai. As they will be professionally qualified, they can be absorbed as teachers.
