Under the provisions of the Child Labour Prevention Act, the district collector has been given the specific duty of checking the menace of child labour in his/her district. But in Amreli district, the menace seems to be prevailing right under the nose of the collector.

The Ahmedabad-based organisation, Dalit Hak Rakshak Manch (DHARM), which is working for the protection of the rights of the downtrodden, has caught on camera, two children, working at a tea-stall on the campus of the Amreli District Collector, during a visit to the office on November 6.

Rajesh Solanki, the secretary of the organisation, has now sent a note via-phonogram to the Amreli district collector to take note of the issue and requested him ‘to eradicate child labour from the district and particularly from his office.’

Solanki has made a DVD, a copy of which is available with Newsline, containing the video-graphed interview of one child labourer working at a tea-stall inside the Amreli district collector’s campus. The boy named Prakash states in the video that he serves tea. The boy, however, is too young to know his age or his date of birth.

Amreli District Collector D G Jhalavadiya said: “I am in the field today. So, I do not know anything in this regard. But, I will definitely check it up with my office.” When asked if he has ever seen any child labourer inside the compound or around it, he said, “I've never seen any such thing.”

According to Deputy Labour Commissioner K O Shah, the collector is the chair person of every district’s Child Labour Rehabilitation and Welfare Committee and is responsible to make sure that the child labour prevention provisions are being followed in his/her district.

Solanki told Newsline: “The incident shows the kind of insensitivity prevailing among the government machinery over the issue of child labour. If the district collector is not able to check child labour inside his office compound, we can understand how well the job could have been done in the district.”

As per we all know that where in the country of ours , you can find a tea delivey boy who is not underage.remember that our country still has to grow a lot and we cant bring this kind of nonsense issue who can divert our growth oriented mindset and by the way Mr D zalavadia is holdong his post on true merits not on reservation as mr solanki has profited this misadvantage. so stop this noise and move ahead in the direction the world is moving. by the way mr solanki can feed those unfortunate kids from his rightfully earned monies not through currept way earning. by the way we are same unfortunate people lost our admission in our ownindian schools due to reservation systems and we ended in foreign soil and by the grace of bhagwan we are in a position to help to our motherland for millions of dollers. so mr solanki , kindly , shut up and be good yourself first and than try to change your own family. and this is for your info. we did built schoo l in india, at ourexpense
