A new wellness design label is exactly what you need this summer

Breathe. That’s the message White Champa designs send out. Set up by two Delhi-based designers, the label focuses on a non-fussy approach to quality clothing. Using organic fabrics, Anjana Das and Jyotsna Uppal have designed versatile outfits for a wellness/yoga line that can also be teamed up with a variety of dressy jackets, trousers for a night out.

“In this collection, inspired by the primal organic forms of the trees amongst which we live and work, we offer distinctive pieces which are rooted in active wear but extend into a way of life,” says Das, who also heads Sharira, another contemporary design label. While Das grew up in Germany and worked with Lesage in south India and moved to Delhi in 2005, Uppal grew up in the States and was a professor of history at Quincy University in New York.

The clothes are mainly a series of tops, kurtas, skirts and trousers. What sets them apart is the no fuss simplicity of their cuts and the fabrics used. “For yoga, for travel, for sport or leisure, we understand the need for versatility combined with sophistication,” says Uppal. The duo are launching their label in the first week of March in Delhi. Look out for the silk jackets in crimson, the kurtas with a detailed metallic collar in gold and silver, the short trousers in purple called Pipal pants. What is sure to catch your eye are the sleeveless cotton kurtas, called Amla Tops. Prices start at Rs 2,000 and can go up to Rs 8,000.
