Will surpass paddy target, says govt
CHANDIGARH:
With government agencies and private millers procuring 114.18 lakh metric tonnes (MT) of paddy till Monday, the Punjab government claimed that it would be able to cross the procurement target of 140 lakh MT during the current kharif marketing season. A spokesman of the Chief Minister’s Office said 117.79 lakh MT paddy was procured during the last season.

GNDU Distance Education dept gets a new head
AMRITSAR:
Professor Ajaib Singh Brar, the Vice-Chancellor of Guru Nanak Dev University, has appointed Prof Gurupdesh Singh of English department as Director, Distance Education. Prof M S Hundal of chemistry department has been appointed as coordinator of EDUSAT programme of the university. According to Registrar Dr Inderjit Singh, these appointments will be valid till March 31, 2010.

Journalist dies in road accident
KAPURTHALA:
A journalist lost his life while his colleague sustained serious injuries in a road accident on Monday. Pargat Singh and Deepak Kumar, both journalists with Ajit, a vernacular daily, was returning from Gurdwara Ber Sahib in Sultanpur Lodhi on a motorcycle when an unidentified vehicle hit them. While Pargat died, Deepak was admitted in hospital with serious injuries, the police said. In another accident, Harvinder Singh, a student, died when another unidentified vehicle hit his motorcycle at the same place on Monday night. A case has been registered.

GNDU BCA Part-III result today
AMRITSAR:
The results of BCA Part-III examination conducted by Guru Nanak Dev University in September 2009 will be declared on Wednesday. Dr R K Bedi, Professor In-charge (Examinations), said the result would be available on the university website www.gndu.ac.in after 5 pm.  ENS
