Environmentalist S K Sharma passes away
City-based environmentalist S K Sharma passed away on Friday after suffering a heart attack. He was 68. Sharma complained of chest pain and was rushed to the PGI where he breathed his last. President of the Environment Society of India, Sharma is survived by a brother. The cremation will be held at the Manimajra cremation ground at 2 pm on Saturday.

3 held for forgery
Three persons, allegedly involved in procuring passports by producing fake documents, was booked by the UT police under charges of cheating and forgery on the intervention of UT Chief Judicial Magistrate on Friday. Police have booked Vandana Sharma, Sunita and Gurmit Singh under Sections 420, 468, 471, 474 and 120-B of the IPC.

Man booked under Noise Pollution Act
Police booked a person under the Punjab Noise Pollution Act for allegedly playing a loudspeaker at the Sector-40 community centre on Thursday night. Sanjeev Kumar was booked under Sections 3 and 4 of the Act in the Sector-39 police station. The amplifier and CDs were also taken into custody and the accused was arrested. He was later released on bail.

Newborn abandoned
PATIALA:
A newborn girl was found abandoned by a grocery store owner near Badungar road on Thursday morning. The child has been admitted to the local Government Rajindra Hospital, as she was suffering from congestion.

Ruchika molestation: CBI closes argument
The Ruchika molestation case trial, in which former Haryana DGP S P S Rathore is an accused, was conducted for the fourth consecutive day, with the in-camera proceedings lasting for about two hours on Friday. Completing arguments for the Central Bureau of Investigation, senior public prosecutor presented the final arguments during the longest hearing session. The complainant in the case, Madhu Prakash, mother of Ruchika’s friend Reemu, also joined the proceedings today as she appeared before the Special CBI court. With the CBI prosecutor closing his arguments a day before expected, the accused’s counsel Abha Rathore, who is the wife of the former Haryana DGP, will now have to start the arguments from Saturday, instead of getting a day off to prepare the final arguments.
